rain, pizza
When it is 9:30 p.m., and your daughter will not go to sleep. You can always go out in the rain for pizza.

pause
Mike is off to China tonight, and our camera went with him. So we will be taking a short break from photo-blogging until he returns.

Hippo Says Hi
If you look carefully, you can see that these are parents who haven't been getting a lot of sleep.

nicknames
The daughter is 7 months old (and counting), and we haven't settled the big nickname question. We call her by her given name -- her full first name -- and then we call her a whole bunch of other things. "Turducken" became "Turduck." So we have a nickname for that nickname. When she and I are home alone at night, when Mike is at school, things take a literary turn. I call her "My Little Loyal Gosling," "Wise Weaver," and "Discerning Daughter." I also call her "Monster," "Shrieker," and "Terror," as the occasion demands.
Mike's family call her "Penny," and some of our friends refer to her simply as "P."
I had kind of settled on Nellie as her formal nickname (a formal nickname?), but last night we re-settled on Poppy. Before she was born I called her "Pennyleinchen" which is a double German diminutive. Now I have taken to thinking of her as Given Name (comma) "Poppyleinchen." But even as I write this, I am waffling again. Penny? Poppy? Pip? Pippa?
Clearly the nickname discussion is a work in progress.

stop the truck
P. is 7 months old. Other than growing-up at warp speed, her days are spent screaming at the top of her lungs and then looking at me with a huge, "wasn't that exciting!" grin. It is exciting, but I am not sure the neighbors are ever going to forgive us. She is close to crawling, and has mastered spinning in a perfect circle. Sometimes she pushes herself forward, but it is clear that it happens by happy accident. She still has basically no hair, although what is there is definitely red. And, as one might expect, everything about her is totally perfect. (Except for the screaming, that is imperfect but we love it anyways).
